Board Covenant
We, the board members of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Canandaigua, covenant to be present in our work together, be honest and be kind/gentle to one another in all interactions. Be direct in communication and present a united voice to direct the ministries of the Church.
The Board of Trustees is a body of five church members elected each June by the congregation members during the Annual Congregational Meeting. Two Trustees are elected in alternating years for a term of two years, and one Trustee is elected for one year at each Annual Congregational Meeting. Trustees begin their term of office on July 1 following their election. The Board leads the Church to fulfill its vision by organizing committees and panels to carry out programs and projects for the congregation, making financial decisions, and appointing staff and volunteers.

SPIRITUAL deepening
“People come to church longing for, yearning for, hoping for … a sense of roots, place, belonging, sharing and caring. People come to a church with a search for community, not committee.” — Glenn Turner

MEDITATION
On Tuesday evenings (now mostly by Zoom) practice ‘mindfulness meditation’. From 7:00 - 8:30pm. We read a short passage and then sit in silence for 20 to 30 minutes, followed by inspired sharing and discussion. While there are a spectrum of ways to practice mindfulness, most of us are familiar with basic breath meditation as a way to bring focus and calm to our time of practicing together. Instructions are always available.

Pastoral Care
Life has both its joys and sorrows, both of which might occasion a conversation with the Minister. Our minister offers pastoral support by email, telephone, and in person and they can refer to a Pastoral Counselor or other counseling as is needed.
We provide pastoral care to all members regardless of ability. To build the beloved community, the volunteers on the care team receive special training to assist those who may feel unwelcome, patronized or marginalized because of their disability. They may not be able to fully remedy every situation, but they can provide a compassionate ear and a willingness to enlist the help of others. If you have a hidden disability that you think it’s important for someone to know, please contact a member of the pastoral care team or contact the minister to share your information in confidence.

MEMbership
Welcome to our exciting church community!
When you decide to join our church it will be a big moment for you, and for us. We have a responsibility to see that you are made welcome and that you find a place in our midst where you can make friends and continue your spiritual journey. In return, we ask that you become involved in our church in ways that are meaningful for you. We ask you three things:

We have a responsibility to see that you are made welcome and that you find a place in our midst where you can make friends and continue your spiritual journey. In return, we ask that you become involved in our church in ways that are meaningful for you. We ask you three things:
- that you find a small group here that feeds your soul
- that you join in the work of a committee or project of your choosing, (many hands make lighter and more fun work), and
- that you support the church as you are able with your financial gifts or by donation of services. When you are ready to join, feel free to contact a member of the Membership Committee.
- Meet with a member of the Membership Committee for a discussion about the church, what you would like from it, what you would like to offer to it, and where you might begin to fit in.
- Attend an orientation for newcomers – not mandatory but strongly recommended.
- Participate in a New Member Recognition where you will be officially welcomed into the church, and along with other new members, sign the membership book.
PLEDging and donating
A pledge is a promise to donate a certain amount of money to the church within the fiscal Year. To live out our principles and live up to our Vision and Mission, we ask UUCC members and friends to pledge generously.
You can make a pledge now using our online pledge form. Donate via Venmo at @uucanandaigua or via Paypal.
